Friesland - North Sea magic between tradition and vastness

My Friesland: vast horizons, endless dykes, picturesque villages and a fresh breeze of North Sea air - Friesland is a place where the clocks tick slower and the soul comes to rest. For us, it's more than just a region - Friesland is a way of life.

Whether it's a walk along the Jade Bay, a cycle tour along flowering meadows or enjoying tea in a historic Gulfhof: the Frisian landscape shows its most beautiful side at any time of year. Especially the proximity to nature, the play of ebb and flow, the light over the Wadden Sea - all this makes Friesland unique.

But what really makes Friesland special are the people. Down-to-earth, warm and with genuine North German humour, they welcome guests as if they were part of the family. Once you have been here, you quickly realise that Friesland is not just a destination - it becomes a piece of home in your heart. So it's no wonder that many come back year after year to recharge their batteries - between the North Sea wind and Frisian serenity.

Friesland and the Wadden Sea - a unique habitat on the North Sea coast

Friesland is located directly on the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site - a unique natural area that is characterised by the forces of the tides like no other. Every six hours, high and low tide alternate, transforming the coastal landscape into a constantly changing spectacle of water, sand and sky. This natural wonder begins right on our doorstep and shapes the life, culture and identity of the entire region.

The Wadden Sea is home to over 10,000 animal and plant species - from tiny mudflat snails to majestic migratory birds. Some of these species, such as certain algae, mussels or lugworms, are found exclusively here. The diversity of species in the mud is particularly impressive: Mussels, shore crabs, sea scorpions and countless microorganisms form the basis of a sensitive but amazingly lively ecosystem.

For us in Friesland, the Wadden Sea is not just a natural phenomenon, but a piece of home. It reminds us every day how precious and worthy of protection our environment is - and how much magic lies in the apparent silence of the North Sea.
